我国の年代別認知症の発生率ですが８５歳を超えると男女とも３５％をこえてます。とくに女性の発生率は４３％と男性を大きく上回っています。
また、米国の統計と比べるとさらに興味深いことに、非常に高いということです。米国の場合せいぜい１５％（下表は人口１０００人あたりの人数ですが）とあります。
おそらくこの原因が日本人の寿命が長いことにあり、米国においては認知症を発症するよりも先に死亡してるケースが多いのではないかと思います。「長生きだからこそ、認知症の心配もより大きくなる」ということなのでしょう。
